Eastern West Africa Episcopal District

Promise Chinwe Effiong was born on 16th January, 1967 in Enugu State, Nigeria. She is the daughter of the late Mr. Lawson Ezere and Mrs. Promise Ubochi Lawson of Umuorie in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. She had her early education at Agwu Town School, Agwu, Enugu State and Prince Memorial High School, Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. She obtained the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from the College of Education, Jalingo, Taraba State, Nigeria, in 1992 majoring in Biology and Integrated Science. She also obtained the Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria in 2004 majoring in Guidance and Counselling. She is a professional teacher registered with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. She works as a Teacher and a School Counsellor from 1996 to date with the State Secondary School Board, Cross River State, Nigeria. She is a member of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in Nigeria. Promise is an active member of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent of Sunday school for many years. In the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, she has served as Superintendent of Buds of Promise, Secretary of Youth Missionary Society and Conference Worker, President of Calabar-North District (2009-2016), and President of the Minister’s Spouses and Widow(ers) Fellowship (2012-2016). She participated in the Emma B. Watson Leadership Training Institute and Quadrennial Missionary Society Conventions in 2011 and 2015 as an elected delegate of the Eastern West Africa Episcopal District. She was appointed the Missionary Supervisor of Eastern West Africa Episcopal District in 2016. In 2022, the scope of her work as Missionary Supervisor was enlarged to include four Annual Conferences in Central Southern Africa Episcopal District, namely, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique Annual Conferences. By the action of the 52nd Quadrennial Session of the General Conference, Mrs. Promise C. Effiong would serve as the Missionary Supervisor of the Eastern West Africa Episcopal District, which includes the eleven Annual Conferences in Nigeria, Uganda Annual Conference, and Burundi Annual Conference. Mrs. Promise C. Effiong is married to Bishop Uduak Usen Effiong, the 105th Bishop in Succession, and Presiding Prelate of the Eastern West Africa Episcopal District, Their union is blessed with four children, John, Samuel, Esther and Elizabeth. She lives in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria with her family. Her favorite quote is Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” (NKJ).
